Dear Family & Friends,
It’s been almost two years since we lost Jeff Lebowitz, Kenny’s dad, Robin’s husband, and an Uncle to 11 nieces and nephews, including me. As you all may recall, I started raising money to support Lung Cancer research for the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation as my mitzvah project in 2016. I knew it was more than a one-time thing for me because I was raising funds in support of my Uncle Jeff, who was fighting daily to battle his stage four lung cancer.
I was fortunate to be able to see my Uncle Jeff on the day he passed, which also happened to be the day before my bar mitzvah. He knew he was not going to be well enough to participate in the mitzvah weekend but we didn’t know he would leave us that day. He had given very specific direction to everyone in our family that "the show must go on!" And even gathered up the strength in his final hours to lift up his hand and give me a fist pump, his signature move. As you can imagine, he inspired me on that day as he continues to inspire me each day.
I have taken my uncle's advice to heart and the "the show must go on!" We haven't found a cure so my quest MUST continue.
One of the most important resources and support available to my Uncle and my Aunt Robin through this battle was the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, one of the largest philanthropies devoted exclusively to eradicating Lung Cancer through research, early detection, education, and treatment.
Imagine if we keep continuing the quest? I want to pave the way for people like
my uncle and give them what they need to survive.
Aunt Robin, and my almost 13 year-old cousin Kenny are doing their best to live each day to its fullest despite their terrible loss. And now, in 2 months, we will be celebrating Kenny's bar mitzvah, but with heavy hearts because our family will be missing an important member. However, we all continue to be inspired by our uncle's courage and the way he continued to live his life performing his own mitzvahs every day.
So this year, we will walk in memory of my Uncle Jeff Lebowitz (Lebo). Last year’s Hurricane Irma prevented us from completing this special tribute. This year, we will continue to search for a quest for a cure and walk in memory of Jeff Lebowitz. I hope you can join us!
